2018-2021
Ushiriki Tanzania is a civil society coalition championing for democracy and citizens’ rights in Tanzania through capacity building, research, advocacy, media engagement, and inclusive democratic governance. There are 23 member organizations from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Iringa, Pwani and Zanzibar.
Among the issues supported by coalition members, the following are UT campaign priorities for post civic election 2019:
- Assess women, youth and persons with disabilities experiences, challenges and lessons in their participation as candidates and as voters in the recent conducted civic elections.
- Advocacy on inclusive electoral policies for women, youth and persons with disabilities based on civic election experiences.
Ushiriki Tanzania Coalition campaign on Tanzania mainland focus on promoting inclusion of women, youth and PWDs in election processes including participating as voters and candidates.
Following Tanzania civic elections in 2019, Ushiriki Tanzania coalition will conduct post civic election inclusion analysis to assess women, youth and persons with disabilities experiences, challenges and lessons learnt in their participation in the recent conducted civic elections, as voters or/and candidates.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
- To bring youth, women and PWDs together to discuss and reflect on their inclusion in the recent conducted civic elections throughout the processes including registration, participating as candidates and in voting. The targeted groups will share experiences, challenges and lessons learnt in civic election and provide recommendations for better engagement in 2020 general election.
- To develop a joint analysis highlighting youth, women and PWDs experiences, challenges and lessons learnt in the recent conducted civic election to inform inclusion policies improvement for 2020 general election Increase public awareness on youth, women and PWDs participation in the recent conducted Civic election through swahili and English prints
- Promote key government stakeholders engagement in the discussion around inclusions based on the findings from youth, women and PWDs participation experiences in the recent conducted civic election
